The Power of the Cross: A Message to the Skeptic and the Seeker

In 1 Corinthians 1, Paul says, “The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.” That simple verse captures the tension many of us feel when we hear or share the gospel. Some respond with a loud “Amen”, while others roll their eyes, thinking it's all nonsense. Maybe that’s you.

Maybe you're reading this and thinking, “This sounds foolish. How can anyone believe this?” Virgin birth, God becoming man, taking the wrath of God, rising from the dead—if you're honest, it might sound too wild to be true.

But I want to challenge you: what if your response is not rooted in logic but in blindness? Scripture tells us that spiritual things can’t be understood by the carnal mind. Without the Spirit of God, these truths seem like fairy tales. The veil over your heart can only be removed in Christ. That’s what 2 Corinthians tells us. And Galatians makes it clear—no one is justified by keeping the law. The only way to life is through Jesus.

The gospel isn't just a story. It's a divine rescue mission. Jesus Christ, the Lamb slain from before the foundation of the world, bore the weight of our sin. He was crucified, buried, and raised to life. He ascended and is coming again to judge the living and the dead. He is the Alpha and Omega. This is not folklore. This is power. This is salvation.

And yet, many are still blind—trying to earn righteousness, rejecting the cross, calling it foolish. But there is hope. The veil can be lifted. If you're wrestling with depression, anxiety, grief, or hopelessness—He can meet you there. He is near to the brokenhearted. He is not far from anyone who calls out to Him.

Look at Job. Even in the depths of suffering, Job didn’t curse God. He said, “Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him.” That kind of faith is possible. That kind of relationship is real. But it only begins when we humble ourselves, repent of our sin, and seek Jesus—not with pride or performance, but with a genuine heart.

If you truly want to know Jesus, ask Him to reveal Himself to you. And He will. He delights in revealing Himself to the humble and sincere.

The message of the cross isn’t foolish. It’s the power of God—for eternal life and for a life filled with the Holy Spirit here and now.
