Jesus Meets Us In Our Suffering

One of the things I love so much about Jesus is that He is able to empathize with our weaknesses. Hebrews 4:15 says, "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin." Though we should definitely be pursuing a life of holiness to God, we so often fall into this trap of believing we have to somehow pull ourselves out of this pit, and that Jesus is disappointed in us when we just can't measure up. I love that in this verse the word empathize is actually a greek word that can be put as "suffer" or "co-suffer." Jesus doesn't just say "get better", but rather He actually "suffers with" us in our weaknesses. He doesn't tell us to get out of the pit or reach down to give us a hand, He goes into our suffering with us, and takes the load for us, while giving us His load. His load is easy, and the very nature of His heart is gentle and lowly. He's the same Jesus now as He was when He walked among people. He didn't ascend and somehow lose His gentleness and meekness. Wherever you are today, you have a God who made the final sacrifice for you, and is there with you in your weakness. He wants to give you His yoke, and take yours. He's not a taskmaster or a slave-driver. He is: a man acquainted with grief, a man of sorrows, a friend who sticks closer than a brother, and gentle and lowly of heart. I pray as you seek Him in your weaknesses you would genuinely receive what His heart is for you.
